Welcome to Witchcraft.

Witchcraft is an incredibly hot topic nowadays.

You see it everywhere. Social media like TikTok, trendy crystal decor, Tumblr. It can be hard to navigate or even understand; What is Witchcraft? Witchcraft is frequently confused with Wicca, which is a modern, alternative, nature-based religion. While Wicca and Witchcraft possess many similarities, including reverence for nature, Wicca is a specific, formal religion. There is a wide range of ways of practicing Witchcraft, with varying degrees of structure. For the context in this book, the term “Witchcraft” refers to the practice of working with natural energies to attain goals, without a specific religious context.

COMMON QUESTIONS REGARDING WITCHCRAFT:

- DO I NEED A LOT OF TOOLS TO START OUT / AN ALTAR ? -

No, you can practice Witchcraft in many ways that do not need tools, or you can just make your own tools! You can easily make a pendulum out of a necklace or anything that swings for example. Printable tarot cards are easily findable online, and you do not need an altar to practice Witchcraft at all, but you can easily make one in a shoebox. Most spell ingredients are things you can commonly find in your kitchen (Cinnamon, salt, sugar, etc.), and rosemary is a herb you can substitute for most herbs used in simple spells. It is all about intent/what you feel the most comfortable with. Sigils are an area of Witchcraft which only need a pen and paper, you can do so much with them too!

- DO I NEED TO BE A SPECIFIC GENDER/SEX/SEXUAL ORIENTATION TO PRACTICE WITCHCRAFT ? -

No, despite what anyone may say to you, you are entitled and free to practice Witchcraft, LGBTQ+, female, male, or any other gender identity or not. Sometimes in spirituality you will come across descriptions of “masculine” and “feminine” energy, but this does not relate to sex/gender. No sex, gender, or identity has more potential to be skilled at Witchcraft than any of the others. Anyone can be a Witch.

- CAN I PRACTICE WITCHCRAFT REGARDLESS OF IF I’M CURRENTLY A PART OF ANOTHER RELIGION ? -

This depends on the rules of your religion and how orthodox you are, and your choice. But there are plenty of Christian, Catholic, Buddhist, and Jewish Witches. Up to your own judgement, but if you are respectful, you can incorporate other religions into your practice most of the time.

- DO I HAVE TO WORSHIP A DEITY TO PRACTICE WITCHCRAFT ? -

No, you do not have to work with demons, deities, spirits, or anything else when practicing Witchcraft if you do not want to. Witchcraft is largely areligious and does not follow a god/goddess. However, you can work with deities and still be a Witch.

- AT WHAT POINT DO I CONSIDER MYSELF A “PROPER” WITCH ? -

Whenever you like. You are valid and a lot more capable than you probably think. There are no pre-requirements to practicing Witchcraft or considering yourself a Witch.

Now that's out of the way, do you want to move on?.
